Corporate Compliance

Our nation’s prison system is filled with people who have gone to prison as a result of convictions related to white-collar crime.

Check out our Executive Summary to learn how effective compliance programs can help your company. An effective compliance program can lessen the likelihood of a government investigation, or charges for white-collar crime.

Many people who are currently serving time for white-collar crimes complain that:

  • They didn’t know their business decisions could lead to government investigations.
  • Business decisions should expose them to civil charges, not white-collar crimes.
  • The costs of defending against a government investigation drove them to bankruptcy.
  • Their decisions should not result in the high costs of a conviction for a white-collar crime.

Can your business withstand a government investigation? We can help.

Our team could build an effective compliance program for your company. By working to show best practices, and showing a good-faith effort to abide by all laws and regulations, you go a long way toward qualifying for:

  • Non-prosecution Agreements
  • Deferred-Prosecution Agreements
  • Leniency

We encourage you to take the free 15-question quiz above. The simple yes-or-no questions will clarify whether you’ve taken steps to protect your assets, your business, and your liberty. The more you understand about government investigations, the more effective you can be in creating defense mechanisms.

Although you can control everything you think, say, and do, you cannot know everything that every member of your team is doing. Invest the time and energy to make sure that you have the right programs in place to protect you against accusations. Our free course, Compliance 101, will help you understand government investigations. More importantly, it will help you understand steps you can take to protect your business, your assets, and your liberty.

Collaborating with Compliance Mitigation and Prison Professors

Sadly, many business leaders build their careers without a complete understanding of how their decisions can lead to criminal charges. Our nation has more than 4,000 criminal statutes. Prosecutors may choose to bring criminal charges against people for reasons that don’t have anything to do with justice. They may want vengeance, or they may derive some form of political benefit for bringing criminal rather than civil charges against a person.

To prepare for the best outcome, it’s best to understand the criminal justice system. The more you know, the better you can prepare yourself to avoid the indignity of criminal charges. But if prosecutors bring charges against you for a white-collar crime, learn steps you can take to get leniency at sentencing or to prepare for the best possible outcome.

We’re Innovative

I’m Michael Santos, founder of Compliance Mitigation. You should know what differentiates us from our competitors and why our team can help you.

To get the backstory of my journey, you can click this link.

Like the protagonist in Homer’s epic tale of Odysseus, I’m a man who has been on a long journey. The link above will give you full insight into the experiences that led me through 26 years in federal prison, and how I emerged to build businesses around the experience. The bullet-point version follows:

  • I made bad decisions as a young man that led to a government investigation.
  • My response to the government investigation led to a 45-year prison term.
  • While incarcerated, I earned a bachelor’s degree, a master’s degree, and I published books to help business leaders understand how they could avoid behaviors that could lead to white-collar investigations and criminal convictions.
  • Upon release, I built businesses to teach others about the complications that follow for people charged with crimes.
  • Everyone on our team has gone through a government investigation.
  • Together, we can help your company build effective compliance programs.
  • If you’re facing charges for white-collar crimes, we can work to position you for leniency at sentencing, or the best possible outcome.
  • Our team can help with highly customized efforts to restore your reputation.

Larry Hartman is On Our Team

Lawrence Hartman, Graduate of Columbia Law School and a Government Investigation

Lawrence “Larry” Hartman graduated from Columbia Law School, and served as editor of the Columbia Business Law Review. He then went on to build a successful career as a securities lawyer.

After several years, Larry began building businesses in the online-gaming space, with interests in Costa Rica, the United Kingdom, Spain, and other jurisdictions. Through those initiatives, Larry developed expertise with international banking and asset protection laws.

Despite precautions, Larry’s work led him into the crosshairs of a government investigation. His response to that government investigation led a ten-year prison term.

Larry works with business leaders who want to create compliance programs to avoid government investigations. Yet if a person faces challenges with white-collar crimes, Larry and our team can help the individual understand esoteric concepts, such as:

  • Understanding federal grand juries,
  • What to know about mail fraud and wire fraud,
  • How to respond to charges for honest services fraud,
  • Why prosecutors bring conspiracy cases,
  • the Foreign Corrupt Practices Act,
  • Healthcare Fraud
  • Securities Fraud

Our nation has thousands of statutes that criminalize business decisions. Larry and our team of experts at Compliance Mitigation can help people who face charges for white-collar crimes.
